The Catlins

The Catlins is a remote, sparsely populated area on the south east corner of the South Island. A couple waterfalls, dense rainforests, and rocky beaches were awaiting exploration.

McLean Falls – Gorgeous three stage waterfall deep in the Catlins wilderness.
Catlins (2)
Another light house for Amanda – The Lighthouse at Nugget Point
Nugget Point – These rocky islets are nicknamed The Nuggets, hence Nugget Point.
Catlins (4)
Purakaunui Falls – Another stunning waterfall.
Catlins (5)
One of the many caverns at Cathedral Caves. The highest point in one of the caves is 30m (100 feet) high.
Catlins (6)
I took a flashlight and explored the depths of the caves and stumbled upon this curious creature – a blue-eyed penguin
